Conflict Consortium Abstract

This book explores contemporary theories of "deliberative democracy" and describes deliberative dialogue as an effective means for arriving at agreement. The core idea is that when individuals disagree morally, they should continue to reason together to reach mutually acceptable decisions. The authors maintain that deliberation should be part of political life both throughout government and in broader public life.

Nonviolence means avoiding not only external physical violence but also internal violence of spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, but you refuse to hate him. -- Martin Luther King, Jr.
